The Importance of Dash Cams
Designed to mount to a vehicles windshield and record everything seen out of the front of the vehicle, dash cameras are packed with different features. Find one that is right for you and your needs. Video quality, storage capacity, design, GPS options, and camera quantity are some...

U.S. Representatives Tim Ryan (D-13th OH), Peter King (R-2nd NY) and Jan Schakowsky (D-9th IL) recently introduced the Helping Overcome Trauma for Children Alone in Rear Seats Act (HOT CARS Act of 2017, H.R. 2801). The act requires technology in passenger vehicles to alert the driver when a passenger is left in the back seat.
This bipartisan initiative would prevent deaths and injuries caused by vehicular heatstroke. It is the first step to prevent this horrible problem. Reminder systems for headlights, doors, keys and seat belts already exist in many cars.
According to Kids and Cars, this year...

This week Nissan announced the Signal Shield, a Faraday cage installed in a car's armrest. The Nissan Signal Shield blocks all WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular signals and aims to deter distracted driving.
The idea is pretty simple. Place your phone in the compartment and close the lid before you start driving. The Signal Shield will block all messages until you open the compartment, at which point wireless connections will be restored. The concept of blocking electromagnetic waves was pioneered by English scientist Michael Faraday in the 1830s.
Opening the armrest restores all connectivity. This...

Kelly, my fiance, and I got rid of our cars shortly after we moved to New York. I really miss driving everyday. One of my brothers also lives in the city and we trade babysitting for occasionally using his car for groceries or for a weekend trip to the beach. It's a great trade. Recently he took a road trip with his family to Ohio. He took it into his local shop to get checked out before the trip. It's an old but reliable car, so he wanted to make sure everything was alright before the long drive. His car was fine, but he left the shop with peace of mind.

I think it's safe to say that most of us have driven a little over the speed limit at some point in our lives. In my younger, dumber years, I know I have. I have the tickets and upset parents to prove it. But how often do you hear of a police chief issuing himself a speeding ticket? That's what happened last week in Oklahoma.
Sperry, Oklahoma Police Chief Justin Burch issued himself a $300 ticket after a dash cam video showed him driving 80 mph in a 50 mph zone. He held himself accountable and apologized on the department's Facebook page.

How many bridges do you cross every day? According to a new report from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) just over 9% of bridges nationwide are "structurally deficient."
The organization have created an interactive map showing info on each state and which bridges are deficient or sufficient. You can also toggle to a congressional district map. The map also shows proposed bridge work, how many daily crossings a bridge has and other interesting information. How does your state rank?
Don't change your spring road trip route just yet. A "Structurally deficient" grade...

I don't fly that often. Maybe once a year to visit home. I usually pick a super early flight and just sleep the entire way. No problem. That's why I was initially confused when I read a headline that the government may soon allow Wi-Fi connected phone calls on flights. Why would you need to make a call on an airplane? I've used Wi-Fi on a plane, but never lamented that I can't make a call while in the air. I ride the bus nearly every day, and it's very annoying when someone is on the phone. Someone is always on the phone.
After reading the story, the reason became obvious. It's for work. If you...

I wake up pretty early. Depending on when I go to bed (thanks a lot, Netflix) I usually get out of bed between 5 AM and 6 AM, sometimes even earlier. Every morning I check the weather by looking out my window. I live across the street from a very busy coffee shop and a police prescient. A lot of trucks and buses are stored in my neighborhood. No matter what time I look out the window, the coffee shop is full of drivers, fueling up for their morning rides. It's still full with another group when I start walking to my bus around 7:30. It's important to step back and say thank you.
So Many To Thank...

2016 has been the year we talk a lot about autonomous vehicles. A lot has happened this year. Google created Waymo, a self-driving vehicle company under the Alphabet umbrella. MIT designed a mini city for testing, and GM is testing on public roads in Michigan. Self-driving Ubers (with a driver for emergencies) are being tested in Pittsburgh as I type this.
Playing By The Rules
A few days ago Uber expanded this testing to San Francisco, but with some changes. The cars used in California are EX90 SUVS, the result of a collaboration with Volvo, who does not have a permit for self-driving cars from...

The office is a little quieter this week. No, we’re not taking off work because of rainy weather, and I’m not working from home. A few members of our team are showing off our latest RV safety technology at The RVIA National RV Trade Show at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Here’s a video from last year.

When I was younger I did a lot of stupid things. I’ve driven while eating soup, cereal, and even hot pockets. It’s absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I don’t drive a lot anymore, but I when I do I am 100% committed to the task at hand, driving!
3,179 people were killed, and 431,000 were injured in vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2014. Recently the NHTSA announced their 2nd phase of voluntary guidelines to address distracted driving.
The first phase encouraged automakers to design less distracting devices or systems at the time of manufacture. This second phase encourages...
