Fall is my favorite season. Growing up in the midwest it was a welcome break from the heat, bugs, and cold that defined the other seasons. My birthday is in late October, I loved dressing up for halloween, and pumpkin pie is my favorite dessert. I'm getting married in Kansas just as the leaves are changing. also, gourds. A recent video by YouTube channel Roadcams proves the effectiveness of Volvo's Automatic Emergency Braking Technology (AEB). The shocking footage shows a semi missing a running child running into traffic after being dropped of at a bus stop. This technology saved a child's life.

Oregon's new distracted driving law goes into effect Oct. 1st. House Bill 2597 passed earlier this year, and includes a stricter ban on phone use while driving with higher fines that quickly escalate.

Closing Loopholes

The new law fixes a loophole in a 2009 version, which bans calls/texting, but includes nothing about navigation apps or games. The new version prohibits drives from using ANY phone function that requires holding or touching. You can use the phone to activate a preprogrammed route, but not to type in an address.

I'm going back to Kansas for my cousin's wedding this weekend and I couldn't be more excited. I get to see my entire family and spend one last time in my childhood home before my parents sell it and move to a bigger city. I'm also very pumped for the open road. As I'll be driving a lot on rural roads, here are some tips from the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau on how to share the road with farm equipment.

How many bridges do you cross every day? According to a new report from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) just over 9% of bridges nationwide are "structurally deficient."

The organization have created an interactive map showing info on each state and which bridges are deficient or sufficient. You can also toggle to a congressional district map. The map also shows proposed bridge work, how many daily crossings a bridge has and other interesting information. How does your state rank?

While walking to work today I saw a cyclist hit a hidden patch of ice and fall onto the street. I quickly ran over to see if he was ok, and luckily he seemed alright. A bit shaken, but alright. He didn’t have a helmet on, but caught himself on his hands before his head hit the cement. Thankfully no cars were coming. He was riding on a pretty busy street. It got me thinking about safety laws.

“I should be wearing a helmet, but I left it at work and I’m not going very far. I’ll slow down,” he assured me before zipping down Van Brunt St.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation today announced that the last of the nearly 16,000 U.S. heavy trucks voluntarily recalled earlier this year by Volvo Trucks North America for a serious steering defect have been identified and repaired, achieving an extraordinary 100 percent vehicle safety recall completion in a very short period of time.
